Creationists don't understand basic biostratigraphy

Image
Aside from denying biological reality (like evolutionary biology or even the basic meaning of terms within this field on which I elaborated in What does 'evolution' even mean? ), creationists also support other forms of pseudoscience. This is especially the case in Young Earth Creationist circles where a large portion of science denial is also dedicated towards geology. While creationists mostly focus on radiometric dating itself or the supposed evidence of the Biblical flood, there are also creationists that misunderstand how biostratigraphy is used in geological dating to prove that the logic of "atheists"/"evolutionists" is supposedly circular. https://share.google/arnxWfsYsr3ebuQh9 A simplified representation of the biostratigraphic method Before we begin I shall define what biostratigraphy is in the first place. Biostratigraphy is typically defined as the branch of stratigraphy in which rock strata are identified and organized (correlated and have a...

What does Alan Feduccia actually think about Archaeopteryx?

Image
Archaeopteryx is one of the most famous examples of transitional fossils (more precisely: a transitional taxon). This taxon possessed intermediate morphology between modern birds and their non-avian dinosaur ancestors. This fact is heavily disliked among circles promoting creationism and thus many arguments against the transitional nature of fossils belonging to this genus arose. One includes the claim that Alan Feduccia - an American paleornithologist - thinks that Archaeopteryx is simply "just a bird" that has nothing to do with evidence for evolutionary theory. But are they correct in this assertion? https://share.google/JFAvfZgqdcaULLgie A reconstruction of a flying Archaeopteryx In order to answer this question, we need to explain what a transitional fossil is in the first place. Such fossils are typically defined as fossils showing an intermediate morphology between that of the ancestral and descendant groups and that belong to organisms that diverged before the eme...

No new proteins in Lenski's experiment

Image
Long Term Evolutionary Experiment conducted on Escherichia coli populations by Richard Lenski and his coworkers (also known as Lenski's experiment) is frequently cited in defense of evolutionary theory (for example by showing that fitness increased in these populations over time). Because of that many creationists are well aware of it and have already made quite a lot of claims regarding this experiment (some wilder than the others). That is exactly the reason why I am making this blog post - to respond to a claim regarding "no newly evolved proteins" by Escherichia populations. It is frequently made alongside the claim that "organisms in the experiment are still just bacteria even after tens of thousands of generations". This is a great example of what I've talked about in my very first article on this blog Creationism is not scientifically valid - why I've created this blog? What I mean specifically is making baseless claims that supposedly prove ...

Szymcionorski's website has been officially created!

Image
To visit my website go here:   Szymcionorski's website Because my work is not only limited to Blogger since I am also going to publish videos on YouTube as well, I decided to create a dedicated website. It's main purpose is to provide linking to my content as well as robust citation lists for my videos (to effectively store all of my sources in one place since video's descriptions on YouTube have a word limit). Screenshot from main page of my website Commenting will not be available there because this website is almost exclusively concerned with my self-promotion as well as providing sources of my work rather than being a place of expression of my positions on given topics or a form of discussion hub. In order to criticize any content linked there simply go into the link to enter a comment section there. The website will also allow others to fact check my claims more easily if I get something incorrect. https://share.google/jHDGG6hHgWr0M71fP Picture of Jurassic World T...

What does 'evolution' even mean?

Image
If you've been interacting with creationists in online spaces you've probably stumbled upon an argument akin to "I don't believe in evolution! I believe in adaptation!". It is also common for them to incorrectly equate microevolution with adaptation and conflate macroevolution with universal common ancestry. To clear up this confusion I decided to create this post. So, what even is evolution? https://share.google/DhxhOVE6hxgcVaWvc March of progress - a common, simplified depiction of human evolution from a common ancestor with chimpanzees Evolution (as a process) is commonly defined as changes in heritable traits in populations over generations . It is also frequently referred to as descent with modification since every organism is simply a modified version of whatever its ancestors were. It is thus incorrect to claim that evolution is one organism undergoing some kind metamorphosis-like transformation causing its biology to be completely rewired. It, similarl...
